 Information
Welcome to this site, here you can find the Radio One Essential Mix archives, ever since 1993 when it first broadcasted, up until today, and for the future. In time there will be features added for "artist in residence" which will be a profile of a DJ/Producer we will pick each month, and give you information about them and what they are doing now.

The page is updated by atleast a few people, so it is always up to date.
 black writes: some feedback required
lately, i've been working on a new design for this site and i would like some feedback from YOU .. yes you :P

You can view a preliminary screenshot (which is almost a final version) of the design.. here. Post any comments or suggestions to this news item here and I'll try to process them all, but dont expect any major changes.

If you have some suggestions for a new type of content here on the emix site, also leave a comment between those somewhere .

 ivc writes: Grand Donation

A few days ago we recieved the biggest donation since the start, a grand of 100 euros. As a thank you, the donator will be able to select a year of Essential Mixes of his choice. Shipped to him on DVD discs, for FREE.

Again, we would thank the donator for the first grand donation. Every euro will be put back into this site somehow, either by new features, better performance, optimized coding, etc.

 black writes: new server ;)
in case you didnt know..

the server has been running on the new server platform for quite some time now (i guess i forgot to mention it)..

anyway, i reinstalled it about 2-3 weeks ago, installed a new/faster mysql version, and tuned php preformance..

basically.. i see a preformance gain (drop from 0.25 seconds per pageload down to 0.05 on the same macine), and also other nice little feature updates..

in general.. its been a good running for the server, which is currentlly here on my desk..

(sorry if this makes no sense, but i felt i should write something - nothing happned here for quite some time)

anyway, expect some changes around here towards the summer, may and june should be big months for this site, but we'll see how that develops..

anyway, respecT!

black writes: bbc to open audio archive over the internet
Greg Dyke, director general of the BBC, has announced plans to give the public full access to all the corporation's programme archives.

Mr Dyke said on Sunday that everyone would in future be able to download BBC radio and TV programmes from the internet.

This might mean that all the essential mix archives will be made available on the internet, in not quite so distant future, by BBC itself, and perhaps before hand by us, as they seem to share one opinion we have in common, atleast regarding the essential mixes.

The service, the BBC Creative Archive, would be free and available to everyone, as long as they were not intending to use the material for commercial purposes, Mr Dyke added.

Having essential mixes available on demand online is something we are considering, and in light of this we might acctually make it possible, either trough direct downloads or in form of the eMule/eDonkey links, or other free P2P software.

 black writes: Donations
There i was, reading some tracklistings, when reality shifted.

I've added a paypal donate button to the site, basically because of the following reasons. Hosting this site takes money, the stuff you need to get a server costs money, and whatever i do at work, gives me money which is in fact going to this web page in one way or another every month, around 40 euro for network uplink per month, and there is also the problem with the new box, for which I have in the last two months spent around 500 euro.

Where am i going with this? As the service for the tracklistings is free, and everything else costs money, we urge you to make a donation. It doesnt have to be a million euro (even if that would be fucking great!), but perhaps somewhat of a symbolic gesture, like 10 euro.

There is also a special offer for you available - If you donate 100 euro, you get 1 year of Essential Mix mp3 sets on DVDs by your choice delivered to you for FREE, does'nt matter where in the world you live.

The donations are ofcourse optional, we are not going to loose sleep if you can't donate anything, but think of it as supporting us in providing you a free service, we are grateful for you if you can donate anything or not!
