There are some fantasicly well put together mixes here. The mix of Tilt into BT is fantastic and Bump into Tilt is brilliant.
I love that Microman track, it's the keychange in the middle- that does it for me.

As Pasty As They Wanna Be writes: Bangin techno...Dave Clarke in the mood stylz [ 2000-01-16 - Dave Clarke ]
Yep a pretty brilliant Dave Clarke mix.
Certaintly keeps very busy on the old one and twos here. He's certainly in the mood here. This is indeed how techno should be DJ'd.

Relentlessly techno isn't really my thing .....but when its mixed up liked this with beats constantly being doubled up on and stuff being cut up - it really is entertaining stuff.
A top top mix.

As Pasty As They Wanna Be writes: Top jungle dnb mix [ 1995-01-15 - DJ Ron ]
DJ Ron was the then an "in-house" DJ for Metalheadz - This set showcased some new stuff for the time .

Its pretty reasonably mixed ..competantly so more rather than anything.

Its classic early Kool FM days jungle in most parts.
Some of the material has dated inevitably and a bit more of variety wouldve been nice over the 2 hour period.
Tho later on you can sort of hear the transition drum and bass was sort of strating to go through at the time.
The raggae jungle thing is still here - vocal time stretches ahoy etc .. BUT towards the end the more sparse and bit more sophisticated sounds of Dillinja Brutal Bass and course Inner City Life at the end come more prevelant .

 ninjafury writes: Hotness! [ 2004-02-01 - DJ Touche ]
What a scorching hot mix. This set has rap to a house beat as well as proper house with a sprinkle of rock for good measure. Man, this is a rollercoaster ride of styles, masterfully mixed. This guy has really got some skills to pull this off. Just listen, you'll see what i mean.

As Pasty As They Wanna Be writes: Top mix [ 1997-01-26 - Grooverider ]
A top mix.
There was some really good drum and bass around at the time.

A mix full of contrast too.
Like the other person mentioned above -Grooveriders tune selection varies through the light and the dark sounds of drum and bass . Some great material on here and is all effortlessly mixed nicely.

mkw-pfc writes: not what i expected but still lame [ 2007-03-04 - Eric Prydz ]
this mix trudged on with barely two highlights - at about 100 minutes there was some really good acid stuff possibly two or three tracks on the the trot - the rest was boring monotonous junk although i was expecting really cheesy crap - a la cheesy crap records he makes but suprisingly this seemed non commercial - just crap

not sure who votes for the best essential mix, i defo would'nt have voted it as the best.

however, it defo in the top 5, very chilled out with a bit of idm going on, nice to hear people are doing essential mixes that dont conform to the usual standard!

madvince writes: surprising mix [ 2007-04-15 - Phil Kieran (Alloy Mental) ]
I was expecting the usual techno mix from this guy.

But to my surprise it was a complex mix of rock fused with minimal techno, house & even old skool.

Defo the best constructed essential mix i've heard this year.

madvince writes: refreshing twist [ 2007-03-04 - Eric Prydz ]
The first two tracks left me tingling all over, and again when he drops Paulo Mojo - Paris, defo worth a listen.

James Lee writes: Freeland was and still is! [ 1997-10-05 - Adam Freeland ]
Fantastic, not many mixes rock with tune after tune from begining till end, could not believe what I was hearing, its in my top 5 of ALL time "Essential Mixes". 10 years on this mix still gets played and NEVER sounds dated, its the GOLD standard, benchmark for ALL other "Coastal Breaks" mixes. ALL my friends have heard this one (they have to).

James Lee writes: Bukem mix [ 1995-07-16 - LTJ Bukem & MC Conrad ]
Great mix, not enough Bukem "Essential Mixes" to reflect the stature of D&B and its longtime running through the dance scene.
