Welcome to this site, here you can find the Radio One Essential Mix archives, ever since 1993 when it first broadcasted, up until today, and for the future. In time there will be features added for "artist in residence" which will be a profile of a DJ/Producer we will pick each month, and give you information about them and what they are doing now.

The page is updated by atleast a few people, so it is always up to date.

Hi, does anyone know where I can get a copy of this mix again. It's one of the best ever and I lost my CD of it when I moved house! Help!

zangief writes: kicking mix [ 2005-12-18 - DJ Hell ]
This is one of my favorite mixes.. it's not the mix to find the new and undiscovered, but it's just a kick-ass party mix. The 80's finish is a daring idea but Hell delivers a hell of an ending with it.. I say that out of context this is just excellent.

This mix is solid no doubt, but Stacy occasionally lost me a little bit, and it sometimes got a little tracky for my tastes. But still, I can dance to this anytime.

Good if not amazing mix, enjoyable vocal house. This guy has been around for ages so props to him for getting the recognition.

Infrared writes: Open your eyes!! [ 2007-01-07 - Mark Ronson ]
Well some people need to open their ears! Can't believe some are giving this zero just because it aint minimal/prog/trance/whatever. This is a good fun mix and a lot more enjoyable than 2 hours of stuff that sounds practically the like same tune looped forever. It's a ten for me..

Ryan2268 writes: THE REAL REASON WHY IT SUCKED [ 2006-08-13 - Paul Oakenfold, Live at Cream, Amnesia, Ibiza ]
Sven: You’ve been playing several times in “Essential Mix”, what did your presence in these sessions bring to you and what experience could you gain from these sessions?

Paul Oakenfold: Well, the Essential Mixes… My last Essential Mix was a nightmare!
Sven: Wow...
Paul: It was a live on the radio and one of the monitors... I had problems with the monitor, blew! So I couldn’t hear was I was doing. So it was terrible for me. Ahmm, we managed to fix it but it was possible one of the worst situation for a DJ to lose the monitors and he can’t hear what he’s doing. But that was my last experience. But overall Essential Mixes are great, great a way of promoting new music, of turning on people to new DJs.

 mkw-pfc writes: was ok [ 1999-12-26 - DJ Harvey ]
started slowly but did pick up - was ok i suppose without being earth shattering - cant see why it was billed as a retrospective really as there were no classics to speak of hust a semi eclectic mix really - worth a listen but thats it

 mkw-pfc writes: overrated [ 1999-12-12 - DJ Dan ]
i never liked this the first time from memory but due to it being seemingly acclaimed i gave it another go - dire house really - pretty cheesy and at times unbearable such a contrast from his fantastic 1998 effort would have given it 4/10 but i will give it 5/10 as it kept me saying "things are changing - life's rearranging" every 1/2 hour for about 3 days such is the lost it case i am

Nevermind I FINALLY figured it out. It's a St. Germain Acappella that apparently took me several years to figure out. Still a great mix though, listened to it just the other day.

I'm not really sure what could be considered bad about this mix. Top notch stuff and I usually don't enjoy a lot of his work. Wicked set though.
