 Information
Welcome to this site, here you can find the Radio One Essential Mix archives, ever since 1993 when it first broadcasted, up until today, and for the future. In time there will be features added for "artist in residence" which will be a profile of a DJ/Producer we will pick each month, and give you information about them and what they are doing now.

The page is updated by atleast a few people, so it is always up to date.

Not bad until the risable Eminem bootleg at the end.

At least he builds a set rather than starting off at 132bpms and leaving himself with no where to go.

A good effort.

i liked it. on the grand scheme of things over the past decade or so this is a pathetic mix, but compared to the tripe we have had from radio 1 in the 2006 its got to be up there in the top 3 at least for em of the yar

ive just finished listening to this for the first time and im almost speechless. it goes straight up to my top 5 mixes and only time will tell if i end up liking it more than the likes of oakey's liverpool university set.

the last track is the most perfect ending tune ive ever heard, i cant stop skipping back to 1h55

Great trance, but why was the whole thing recorded in mono?

Also why is this mix not listed on Radio 1's website?

not as bad as the 2004 mix, but a long way from his glory days in 1999

I think what made Oakenfold have a certain appeal in days gone by was the fact that he always had at least half a dozen records no one else had,and these formed the backbone of his sets.

Nowadays with mp3 mixing and cdjs he doesn't have that edge and tries to substitute the records he used to have with his own (awful) productions.

Personally I saw him live 4 or 5 times, the last time being March 2000....and he set was really just an amalgamation of all the tunes he played the previous year on the Essential Mix world tour...and he could be seen visably yawning behind the decks even though the atmosphere was electric in the club(Lush).

This is a club Sasha,Digweed,Howells,Sanchez,Paul van Dyk and a host of others list among the best on Earth,so how he could be so bored (unless he had no passion for the music) in there is beyond me.

Oh dear....heard this at a houseparty a few nights ago.....some of it made me cringe...I could try and break my review down a bit and get analytical about it.....but suffice to say one word will do....NONSENSE.

I think PVD using Ableton,Serato and whatever else he uses is to the detriment of his sets....I mean take a look at this picture from his latest night at my local club Lush:

http://www.dancepics.co.uk/2006/lush_pvd/lush_pvd_029.html

3 laptops....3 cdjs....a midi keyboard and an Allen and Heath 3D mixer.

OVERKILL!!!!

Big room trance done well I must say,
this event was just up the road from me too.

Still though.....not my cup of tea but good for what it was.

I agree,
this sounds no different to any of the trance music released this century.

Bland....but well mixed I suppose.

Average.

It does have some funky bits. Why don`t the minimal haters just listen to their stuff and leave this stuff alone?
