Thomas S. writes: OMG [ 2006-02-26 - Pete Tong, Live from Ministry of Sound ]
Did the people who gave 10 or 9 listen the mix ?
how can you give this rate !
pete tong is not a DJ !
i dont speak about the playlist, one year after the broadcasting, i ll not be fair.
but please listen the mix again, he played live at one of the best club of the world with the best sound system, the best dj equipement, and he wasnt able to synchronize tracks ! the mix is ugly, no respect of intro/outro, it sounds like a mix of an one year experienced dj.
i hope he payed for playing there..

My favorite for 2006. Seething rythmic bliss of the finest quality. It emmediately left a lasting impression. More beautiful soundscaping hear than I've hear in awhile but heavily packed with downtempo and dub architecture. Very moody

Well mixed, certainly one of the better vocal house mixes from that year. enjoyed every tune!

ninjafury,

I think you'll find that, actually, the second track PETE TONG plays during his hour of this Essential Mix is Skylark's "Shout", a white-label that does indeed remix one of the biggest hits Tears for Fears had in the 80's. It's properly credited as such over on the tracklist for that set.

Sander's mix is the second hour of the broadcast, and his second track sounds very much like Dr. Kucho, a little bit like it could have some 80's-pop roots(*), but it sounds pretty much nothing like "Shout" by Tears for Fears.

(* - ...I'm hearing Madonna, come to think of it. That violin loop in the beginning is at least reminiscent of the intro to "Papa Don't Preach", if not directly sampled from it. No?)

Liked this, especially after the first half hour. One of the better recent efforts, minimal or not.

This woman gets away with things no other DJ could. And these remixes are sick, just sick.

Average house mix,
nothing really different to 90% of the house mixes this year.

Quite bland in fact.

 madgoose writes: different fare [ 2006-10-15 - Trentemoller ]
i guess you need to be in the right mood to really enjoy this set, but for anyone who is partial to a few beeps n blips (and i am NOT talking aboot minimal/electro house) it's well worthy of a listen.

hadn't even heard of this dude prior to this EM (djing or producing), but the Chris Isak 'Wicked Games (Trentemoller’s Unofficial Remake)' is a stroke of genius: it's amazing how a few subtlely placed sounds can transform a song.

The Essential Mix needs a breath of fresh air like this one every now and again. This doesn't fully work for me because it's just too wilfully different in places, but very inventive and well mixed. The tune at 1:45:00 is great.

Put this alongside Air, The Rapture, Danny Howells 2002, Cass & Slide, Freddie Fresh etc in terms of bringing a fresh angle, whether it works for you or not.

Pumpin minimal techno stuff from the master, very good mixing, good selection of tunes, pretty solid all in all. In the first hour he played many of his own production (Metro, Spicelab, L.S.G., Multiplicity...)

 mkw-pfc writes: top notch [ 1996-12-29 - Rhythm Masters ]
just listened to this one again and forgot how good it is some real classics and the mixing was faultless very diverse too - such a contrast from their 2000 mix

 mkw-pfc writes: lame [ 1995-12-17 - John Kelly ]
this was generally poor records mixed well - only about 20 minutes in the mix which went 1990/1991 style that was worth listening too - the rest was just pitiful

I liked this one - a nicely understated mix that's got very little to do with Groove Armada's sound. It's hard to define exactly, to quote another review (thanks Pixel) that says it rather nicely, it's got melodic techno, funky percussion, thumping basslines, minimal bits, housey bits, proggy bits, squelchy acid bits and seems to be a strange mix of mainstream and underground.

I'll be coming back to this one, definitely worth a listen for those that haven't.
