i didnt really get through this whole mix. it was kind of all over the place and its kinda difficult to describe in terms of the mix of music played.
not really focused enough for my tastes.
kind of interesting for a listen, but if you're looking for a solid, consistent dance mix, this isn't it. |

This is a quality mix,
think this guy was resident at Home Sydney.
Nice mix of house in all its forms, techno and breaks.
Well mixed throughout as well.
Very good mix. |

Repeated listens to this mix have forced me to rethink my rating and give it a 10.
Far and away the best house mix of 2006.
Sensational stuff. |

I'm sure people will argue with me that he was put onto the Essential Mix in response to being in Groove Armada as well.........well then, why wait until he releases a solo track before doing so.
But then....you will probably never meet anyone as cynical as I am ;-p |

Maybe I'm over fussy,
or maybe todays dance music doesn't quite agree with me as much as say,7-10 years ago.
But again this was another run of the mill house mix,bit of acid here and there but nothing to write home about.
Probably given the chance to compile this mix on the back of his big tune "The 7am drop",can't think why as it was complete bollocks.
Radio1 tend to be fickle like that these days, have 1 decent club track and suddenly you are put on the Essential Mix. |

More bloody minimal.
Although to be fair this one has a lot more going for it than the shite offered up by Alex Smoke,Francois K etc this year.
Actually gets a bit pumping round the 70-80 minute mark, and really starts to sound interesting.
But then true to form it reverts to sleep inducing minimal house/tech house.
Definately a mix for the minimal heads,
sadly not (for the most part) something I will return too.
A bad year for the Essential Mix this one has been. |

I wanna know how those three peeps were able to mark it a zero.
As I want to do the same. |

Utter nonsense.
Can't believe kids go and listen to this tripe week in week out in clubs. |

they dont make em like this anymore
some of these tracks especially the first 1/2 dozen and one at about 100 minutes are truly sublime - a superbly crafted mix |

the doubts about the tracklisting seem to tie up with my taping - im sure this was a scientific mystery and radio 1 played the second hour first because i can remember that good/bad& ugly track coming on after the first news break(as there were 2 breaks in those days) and pete tong introduced massive attack half way through the set as if it was just starting - or maybe i am just shot away
anyway fantastic mix & better than portisheads one which was classy too |

I though this was an excellent mix. At times, I get bored with a long set of only hard trance or techno. His fusion style really makes it interesting. Definitely not the same old. |

This mix is great. Ever since I heard his two ID&T hardtrance compilations (volumes 3 & 4) Marcel has stood out for me. Great mixing and programming. It doesn't let up and doesn't get boring. |

Does anyone know whether that Jaxx Booty Version - "Knee Deep" (white label) was officially released later or does anyone have a discogs link to it or know a place where I can get it? |

ideally would rate it 9.5 but as thats not an option it has to be 10. i admire originality in any creative outlet, and this mix has it by the bucket-load. with the amount of music-by-numbers and generic crap around these days this stands out by a mile. finally, as others have commented, any mix that causes you to laugh has to be something quite special. |
