turn_over writes: good stuff [ 2006-07-02 - Booka Shade, Live at BBC Maida Vale ]
Live Set was absolutely amazing...not only does Booka Shade showcase all the tracks from the album but they are all nicely reworked live as well.

The DJ set is slightly lacking the quality of the Live Set but it has a nice flow to it.

Everything Booka Shade has done this year has been quite good.

This set was pretty good and I agree that the EM has been very lacking all year.

What are those two unknown tracks? I love them both!

So what,
this mix is appalling from a musically perspective,so why not comment about it.

synkboy writes: [ 2006-05-14 - Fergie, Live at Radio1 Big Weekend, Dundee ]
I really have been surprised at the way Fergie has went from playing Hard House to clued up techno and electro.

But this mix does him no favours at all.

synkboy writes: [ 2006-05-14 - Dave Pearce, Live at Radio1 Big Weekend, Dundee ]
Another one who can't mix and gets gigs off the back of his association with Radio 1.

That is something that has always stumpe me.

Radio 1 seem to have a history of getting rid of the better DJ from their roster:

Danny Rampling
Lottie
Yousef
Seb Fontaine
Nic Fanciulli
and with Fergie to follow in Seoptember as well.

Really is a baffling set of circumstances.

This is an appalling mix by a risable 'DJ'

synkboy writes: [ 2006-05-14 - Judge Jules, Live at Radio1 Big Weekend, Dundee ]
Horses for courses really,
if you don't like Judge Jules then there is really little point in lisyening to this as it ain't gonna change your perception of the man or his music.

Having said that,
setting the music to one side,
this is poorly mixed,poorly constructed.

It sounds almost lazily put together.

Time to move aside and give it up for the younger generation Judge.

Eddie Halliwell,Adam Sheridan and Sander van Doorn(although I am not a fan of any of them really)do this thing....but so so much better.

I'm sure you will be comfortable with your millions and your Ibizan villa.

synkboy writes: [ 2006-05-14 - Pete Tong, Live at Radio1 Big Weekend, Dundee ]
Was just going to comment about the uncharacteristicly good beatmixing from Tong til I saw the comment about him playing off a laptop.

I saw him live on the Emix in March in Lush and his music was just as dull as this if not worse.

I could see through him starting so dull if he was playing for 3-4 hours, but there is no excuse for it when only playing for 60 minutes.

Tong seems to want to make a statement about himself more than actually entertain the crowd when he plays on the Essential Mix nowadays.

Poor DJ.

synkboy writes: [ 2006-05-14 - Annie Mac, Live at Radio1 Big Weekend, Dundee ]
Could'nt anyone do this if they wanted?

And it would be a helluva lot cheaper for club promoters than this guff.

Anthem after anthem mixed appallingly.

It just goes to show,
if you can blag a spot on Radio 1 you will get loads of bookings for all the top nights and clubs.

Just look at Pete Tong?!!?!?

He still can't mix after 13 years of the Essential Mix nd this lass is no better.

 synkboy writes: [ 2000-02-27 - Sasha ]
This is almost faultless,
the only fault I find with it(and it is a small one),is the fact he plays DJ Remy - Pumped up and has to pitch it down so much, and it just does'nt sound right.

Why Sasha, can't you go back to sets like this instead of the shit we have to listen to from you nowadays!!!!!

 synkboy writes: [ 1999-10-24 - Pete Tong ]
I would call this a straight up Trance/Deep Trance mix,
and it is certainly one of Pete Tongs better moments on the Emix.

 synkboy writes: [ 1999-07-11 - Darren Emerson ]
This mix is smooth,
fantastic stuff.

He effortlessly switches from deep house grooves to altogether techier numbers,
and the result is a superb mix.

Very much a whos who of trance music for 1999,
excellent stuff.

 synkboy writes: [ 1999-01-17 - Paul Oakenfold ]
Good music for the most part,
the second track is absolutely TERRIBLE though.

Although the aspect in this mix,and indeed of all his mixes that irritates me is the shoddy mixing and programming.

He also does'nt give his sets a lot of thought as the tracks don't flow at all well.

This is a half decent collection of tunes,
but as a mix it is let down by all the things I have listed above.

I still don't see why his World Tour mixes are held in such regard personally.

There were much better trance mixes in this year.
