Here is my assessment,

Live Set - 8.
DJ Set - 4.

Live set was really well engineered and flowed really nicely.

DJ set was just ok.....a few stand out tracks, but after the live set it just paled in comparison imho.

6 out of 10.

Yet another pointless "I don't like this genre so I'm going to tell everyone how crap the music is" comment.

Oh Yeah,

The "Ultimate Seduction" track in #4 or so is an acapella of C'hantal - "The Realm." don't know what it is playing over though. Sounds like whatever James Lavelle used in his GU Romania cd.

This is kick a$$. Going from house to breaks to funky who knows what and back. Ridiculous. And more importantly, very well mixed, awesome track selection, and with all the right downs and lows. I wish I was there, if this is a live recording.

Poor opening 30 mins, gets a bit better after that, but left with a feeling of dull progressive plodding.

Strange that Pete Tong's mixing is better in a studio environment.

This is a solid mix by whoever it was that mixed it ;-p

This is a superb mix.
Hi octane club music and never loses any of its energy.

See my reviews of Holden/Fake,Alex Smoke and Damain Lazarus and you will see what I think of this minimal toss.

This is nonsense.

I saw this guy live in Belfast in March and had high hopes for this mix,but what we get is more minimal garbage.

Can please someone tell me what the appeal is of this genre???

Lazarus is indeed a fine DJ,
and the mixing and transitions here are very solid, but the music(barring one or two exceptions)is for the most part AWFUL.

OK listen up Radio 1,
no more of this crap this year please.

Alex Smoke and James Holden played two of the dullest sets I had to listen to this year.

This is'nt far behind I'm afraid.

Nice mix in a kind of 'gurning your face off at the end of the night' way (depends how you feel about this kind if pounding rhythmic techno). I prefer the Slam mix of the two, a bit more emotive.

Its an alright set, but a lot of it sounds the same, agreed.

PvD currently use a setup that consists of:
2x Apple laptops (1 for Serato Scratch Live & 1 for Ableton), 2x pioneer cdj's & a small midi keyboard for effects & fiddling with Ableton.
After seeing him perform with that setup & having 2-3 crashes throughout the 2½ hour set, i was bit disappointed... which leads me to...
People report that his laptops often crash at gigs, so actually - im not impressed at all.
The mixing is _too_ perfect to my liking.
In my ears , what gives a DJ set its charm is when you can hear the DJ is actually mixing the tunes using his/hers ears. May it be a bit of trainwreck every now & then or funny EQ tweaking.
It all adds up & gives the experience a little more of that roughness which is nice. imho.

Excellent mix up to the strange skip/jump from Depeche Mode to an apparently different portion of the mix. First 40 mins are great.

True, this is a very "slow" and minimal set. But if you are up for something mellow, it has some great stuff. A very moody and somewhat emotional set too as opposed to a lot of truly minimal techno crap out there. Maybe it's the spur of the moment, but I don't think it's a bad set at all... but not for everyday.

As a Ph.D.–D.M.A. in music, with concentrations in musicology, theory and composition I would like to ad my comment. This is music at the very edge of perfection. I dont think people even realize the quality of this piece of mastery. There has never been or will ever be a essentilal mix like this....

Yep I have this on tape!

A nice mix of house an then trancier stuff taking in tracks that sample Whitetown and even the Marmite theme!

Listening to this again as I record it from tape onto my pc, Tongs beatmatching let alone mixing is attrocious, but the track selection brings back so many good memories it diserves the 10.
