This started off great, a really solid house mix I was getting into. Then, as his drum-n-bass digressions got more and more in-your-face, it totally lost me. |

Yep. It really was that good. It was better than their 2002 mix. But that's to be expected since this is pretty hard to top. |

I haven't even made it to Funkytown, Erick had me at Long Train Running. ("C'mon, Bart, the Coast Guard's covering the Doob!" -Homer Simpson)
This is a balls-to-the-wall PARTY mix, something I was starting to worry could be a lost art among the superDJs. I don't know that an EMixer has gotten the crowd (and... jesus, like, the WHOLE crowd) to sing along and COMMIT since the Murk boys did back at the WMC.
This is the sort of mix that DJs whip out for something like the WMC, when they get a chance to let their hair down and actually just have fun spinning (imagine!) for themselves and each other. It's tight, practiced, disgustingly "we're-not-worthy!" skillful, and totally interactive. No pretentious bullshit, no overblown DJ-bathroom-break remixes, practically built out of "moments", and steeped in plenty of (to quote Tong's EM intro) Reeee-Spect. The man, and the set, deserve nothing less.
Oh, yeah... sorry, bush, I come from the Junior Vasquez school of "THERE'S NO SUCH THING AS TOO MANY ACAPPELLAS!" (Only not-enough-backbeats with the variety to hold them up, which nobody can accuse Morrillo of!)
And, yes, I just made it to Funkytown... hooooooly sh*t this man owns my world. |

Agreed that Tiesto really stepped up for this mix -- I'd been completely disappointed in most of what I've heard from him recently, including the Disneyland Paris set earlier in the year.
This mix may indeed be a bit "run-of-the-mill", and there are no real "wow" moments or standout performances from Tiesto himself. But at least he's back to solid, listenable tracks that work well together... it's a much-needed course correction for him. If he needs to reach back to what was working for him 5 years ago in order to move forward, then I'm all for it.
(Reminds me that one of Oakenfold's weekly radio mixes last month [October 2005] took the same tack -- he revisited a bunch of the late-90's trance that built his name, and in my opinion really turned in a choice 'Classic Oakey' mix. The man can keep playing "Betterman" and "Beautiful Day" until he dies, as far as I'm concerned.) |

I am just discovering KU.
This mix blows everything, that's amazing.
It's perfectly seamless.
I was working while listening to it, and I did not even notice lots of the tracks, because of the way they are melted.
That's for me the greatest performance.
Quality speaking, I would compare this mix to Planet Funk's one on 2003-07-20.
The style also is close, but I think it's more diverse than PF (no value judgment in this).
I missed the opportunity to see KU@Queen Paris last time there were here, I wont miss them next time! |

Despitre I prefer the 1st part by Nic, this mix is pumping, except one or 2 titles (Bang Bang, not to name it) which dont fit in the whole thing (far too FM-formatted).
But the last title is absolutely amazing, and I finally found out the title:
D.Drive - This Beat Is Mine (Work That Body)
It is also on Satoshi Tomiie last release: ES. |

This mix started off really well with a darker proggy feel, then slipped into familiar (and less welcome for this listener) soaring synth territory just before half way. |

Some really nice songs in it, mixing ok. Second song lubes me up to the max, but then the mix strays.
Too bad, I like the swedish housemafia otherwise. |
