 Information
Welcome to this site, here you can find the Radio One Essential Mix archives, ever since 1993 when it first broadcasted, up until today, and for the future. In time there will be features added for "artist in residence" which will be a profile of a DJ/Producer we will pick each month, and give you information about them and what they are doing now.

The page is updated by atleast a few people, so it is always up to date.

 rubberneck writes: Awesome mix! [ 1999-01-31 - Cassius ]
This is my favourite mix of all time.
I didn't hear it until 2000 (when Radio 1 repeated it) but have listened to it hundreds of times and am yet to get bored of it.
Zdar's tune selection and mixing is awesome and Boombass's use of samples is wicked.

The mixing in the last 20 mins does get a bit messy in parts, but the first 100 mins more than make up for that.

This mix was actually recorded live from The End in London-if you listen carefully when they drop Cassius 1999 you can just about hear the crowd whooping in the background.

There were 3 other tracks that were played in this mix that aren't on the tracklisting. The one between Buffalo Bunch and Cassius is by We In Music and is called "Penthouse".

Don't know about the other 2 tracks though(before and after Scott Grooves).

rubberneck writes: Very disappointed... [ 2005-07-10 - DJ Sneak, Live from T in the Park ]
I found this mix dull, uninspiring, repetitive.....It didn't really go anywhere. There were only 2 real saving graces: The daft punk remix of Disco Cubizm, and the fact the mix was only 1 hour long. Very poor....

I saw Sneak djing in Manchester several months back and was disappointed. I think the other few hundred people who left the dancefloor while he was playing shared my sentiments.

Top set, live from Amnesia Ibiza.
Typical Tong set. Vocals at start, upfront house in the middle, and trance/techno to finish with.

Hmmmm 40 mins in and it snaps into place. hmmmm. 8/10. Minimal tribal techno at its best I suppose.

This mix is a mental mix. I dont even know what genre is fuckin is.
Its like house techno with a funkeh attitude.
During the time the sound was Sash, BBE, Brainbug and similar. But this mix was like a breath of fresh air. 9/10. They would have gotten a 10 if the fools never played Pink Floyd at the start............. AAAV IT!!!!

30 mins in, and fuck all is happening. Its boring. These records are so easy to mix. There so minimal and repetative. The 90s were the best time for dance music, IMO.
Let see what happens in the next 30 mins.................................

Think I nearly worn out my tape listening to this during the summer of 95.
No such luck with my digital MP3. Tho I think my speakers are suffering.

10/10 For this mix. I saw him @ The Tunnel, Glasgow 1997. Brilliant US DJ.
