 Information
Welcome to this site, here you can find the Radio One Essential Mix archives, ever since 1993 when it first broadcasted, up until today, and for the future. In time there will be features added for "artist in residence" which will be a profile of a DJ/Producer we will pick each month, and give you information about them and what they are doing now.

The page is updated by atleast a few people, so it is always up to date.

OK, this mix is great, it got me through a difficult weekend hunched over a computer working, but inside I was lost in those warm dark rooms!

Ruggs69 writes: Best from WMC this year [ 2005-03-27 - Gabriel & Dresden, Live from Miami WMC ]
This was by far the best set from the WMC this year. Perfect Circle ? wow... Very nice choice and unexpected! I love that they use their own mixes that is great. Just makes them better spinners!

The first track is "Get Ready" by Rare Earth.
The remix of Reign is by Way Out West.
In A State is mixed with Moby's "God Moving Over The Face Of The Waters"..

Does anyone know what the unknown-unknown track is? The sample starts 'I know you want it...' a few Dj's seem to have picked this one up...

Had this since it was on and must be one of my most listened to and most given to mates sets. I love it.

Knew that Dirk Technic track before and remember was bouncing around in my room when that came on. Can't get enough of that track!

Choice of records 10/10, Mixing technique 10/10, Tricks 10/10.

madgoose writes: HILARIOUS [ 2004-05-02 - Rob Da Bank and The Cuban Brothers ]
Taking the view that DJs are entertainers, this mix hits the nail squarely on the head. The freestyle over Ugly Dugling is sheer comedy, the Cuban rhythms at the beginning provide some variety, and whilst the northern hospital dj gatecrashing the show mid-point seems a little contrived it is nonetheless highly original.

 KoolzAK1200 writes: [ 1996-05-26 - Norman Cook ]
Some good stuff here to be fair -Beatles boot , Fatboy -song for lindy / Bassbin twins / Double D & Steinski /Big Audio / few usual suspect breaks -eva / apache etc...- adequately mixed up as Norm to be fair always did -but some proper bad cheese breaks / acid malarky / crap big beat-esque house as youd expect here which hasnt aged very well at all

have to concur with the previous comments, this is one of the strongest House EMs to date. Solid Chunky Beats. With things like music i dont think i could ever give a definitive answer as to "my favourite __" but out of the 60 odd essential mixes on my pc this one certainly gets a lot of airplay at home. The first tune is a bit gash but from 7 mins on it just rolls on a continuous groove. I saw Mark Knight play at a closing party in ibiza (2000) and it was one of the best sets i heard that holiday. he finished his set with Candi Staton's "you got the love" which as far as my ears can tell me is the basis for the "Put Ya hands Together" track that is dropped at the end here.
