7/10

While there was a variety of music, it doesn't mean that all of it was good.

I could have lived without a few of the tracks but I did end up listening to the entire set.

I've heard sets like these by the dozen and this one doesn't attempt to do too much to stand out from the rest of the eleclectic dance style DJs.

And techically this set was inconsistent at the begining, some of the tracks broke in abruptly without and progression or fade in at all.

this mix is great! from the "tom's diner" acapella over evil nine's "crooked" to the breaks remix of "sure shot" by the beastie boys, there's something in this mix for everyone. 80s electro, edits (miami sound machine??!!!??), breaks and everything in-between, it makes me shake my head that the EM doesn't spotlight more breaks djs.

10/10

 Marcin_G writes: [ 2004-07-11 - Behrouz ]
Woah, this mix exactly reminds of what Lee Burridge plays like. Behrouz has a unique style, no doubt about that. I got dull after a while from listening to it, neitherless it's still a sick set

I love the opening track by Cass Then again anything Cass produces is gold. Anyhow, this is splendid grooovy progressive house set, with actually some really good mixing by Dave. I've never heard him mix this good, IMO he doesn't mix well but the programming & tracks are all quality. This set is definitely up there for my liking.

Marcin_G writes: The Same Old Meat Katie... [ 2004-11-14 - Meat Katie ]
This is a good mix by the Aussie but I've heard a lot better livesets by him. 2 hours of dark, deerti & nasty breaks with some influenced house tracks. 7/10

Very good deep mellow house. A high 8, not quite a 9.

3rd track should be
Guillaume La Tortue - City Of 3000 Years

Took me a bit to find that one out...

Loving you more may well have been the soundtrack of a decade for all I care. It doesn't mean everyone has to like it. It's pointless having arguments about taste. You're not wrong and I'm not wrong.

I repeat, for me, the last track goes on a bit.

 Turn_Off writes: Exceptionally good [ 2005-02-20 - Ben Watt ]
I would usually give something like this an 8 or 9 at most.

But I rated it a 10 because the Essential Mix has been lacking in this style of house for quite some time, and this mix happened to be a particularly astounding set of house.

While this style certainly isn't the most demanding at the decks, it certainly is tough to pick each track out to make a smooth feel to the mix.

Hats off to Ben Watt for this mix.

And I'm sure the Essential Mix will go back to standard watered down trance for all those who rate this mix below a 6.

Nothing particularly wrong with track selection or mixing, but I find I can only listen to 15-20 minutes of this kind of music before I get irritated.
