kineylikes writes: Almost forgot.. [ 2002-01-06 - Unkle Sounds ]
I'm trying like hell to get ahold of the special 4 hour mix [or 3.5 hr or whatever it was] that Radio 1 aired the week following this EMix. Pete refers to it during the mix, but I never tuned in.. did anyone catch it, and if so, does anyone have that in MP3? Please let me know.

Thanks,

kineylikes writes: Off the Hook! [ 2002-01-06 - Unkle Sounds ]
Kicks off the year in the right way, these two do. All of the effects and samples they threw in were prefectly executed, and made everything flow quite nicely. I am waiting to find out if that Fleetwood Mac track will ever be released properly, cause it was killer, but I have a feeling I'll be let down. The Layo & Bushwacka! tune at the end, as well as Radiohead's 'Everything..' spiced it right up, as did all the Beatles references and all the older UNKLE-produced stuff. Key!

kineylikes writes: Fear of a Silver Planet, indeed [ 2002-01-20 - James Holden ]
I'm not the biggest Silver Planet fan by any means. Therefore, I don't see how I could possibly be a James Holden fan. I don't even like his name. "holden': what the hell is that? Alright, aside from that..

I liked the way it started out, surprisingly.. but after that, yeah it was a bit of a rollercoaster, wasn't it? I gotta disagree with everyone about those last few tracks--I loved 'em, just not in this context. Give me that Fischerspooner track, and I'll throw it in a mix properly. And, the Mamas and the Papas--you just cna't muss with Mama Cass.

As far as throwing any Plastikman track in the midst of any progressive mix goes, though.. nah. Can't do it, son. At least, James didn't.

And I can see what Synkboy means about the mixing. Sure, it could be digital [taking LHB's word for it], which just means that the tunes are matched BPM-wise. He could still throw in a tune a beat or a bar or 4 bars or even 8 bars off.. I didn't notice that he did, but I still think some things could have been done differently, as far as mixing goes.

Couple more things since I'm listening to it now again: That Society London track at the end is SHIT. But I'll give James credit for playing that Slacker track right before it. That's a killer tune.

Fischerspooner!!

 kineylikes writes: Pretty 'normal' [ 2002-01-13 - H Foundation ]
This was a great mix, don't get me wrong, but it didn't do much and I didn't think it was anything new. We hear a lot of these house mixes. If you played this right after listening to Silicon Soul's mix from last year, I be you wouldn't even know it had changed. Nice to listen to nonetheless, so I can't slag 'em for it.

 kineylikes writes: SLAMMIN' !! [ 2002-01-27 - Misstress Barbara ]
Won't let this one go for a while. It may end up replacing Richie Hawtin's live EMix or Billy Nasty's from last year as my new favorite techno mix.. [aside from Sir Clarke's '00 mix].

The Mistress's mixing was spot on and her track selection was just grand. I'll be looking for several of those tracks that I haven't heard before.. Was glad to see that Umek track, though. I've been banging that one myself for a couple weeks now.

kineylikes writes: Dreamy, deep, sweet and sugarry [ 2002-02-03 - Jori Hulkkonen ]
This was the first mix I've heard of the Finner Jori, but of course I've heard his productions/remixes and needles to say that it was right alonf what I expected. And I loved it! Something about the Scandinavian country and house music that just makes sense.

And, yes, the 80s retro feel. I've been loving every single 80s-sounding tune that's come out since it's huge return last year, and Jori topped off some new'uns. Delicious.

superock writes: Hunt it down... [ 1995-09-03 - John Digweed ]
I have to agree. Utterly unbelievable. This stands out as not only one of the best EM's of all time, but one of the best mixes ever.

Look for this set, hunt it down.

Its one of a kind...

 superock writes: Err... [ 2000-05-28 - Sasha & John Digweed ]
This is considered to be one of their worst mixes ever recorded. I'd agree with that pretty much, and they do too...

Something about jetlag, bad slipmats and too much lager with Sasha led to the tragic set (for what I can remember)

superock writes: Perfecto Fluoro [ 1996-10-13 - Paul Oakenfold ]
This IS Perfecto Fluoro, as I suspected. Although I do think something just sounds different than the studio CDs (if you can get your hands on someone's radio recorded tapes).

One of my favorite mixes (even if its considered cheesy by the snobs).

Bah!

 sunday3am writes: perfect 10 [ 1999-05-16 - John Digweed ]
this is without a doubt a classic mix, so good digweed released an double 2cd set based around it, hunt out the bedrock cd on the INCredible label, i had a terrible taped recording of this untill i downloaded the mix on audiogalaxy, one question to the trainspotters out there, how come the mix is in two parts, it almost sounds like someones made a copy of the first hour and bolted it onto the last 60 mins, ??? fact or fiction, i smell a rat lol, anyway get a copy of this pure digweed class. nuff side!

does anyone know how he gets that sound on his piano riffs in his own tunes? Is it just a standard delay or does he use something else cause i love that sound.

Tetsuo writes: The more things change... [ 1993-10-30 - Pete Tong ]
I agree this mix deserves a 10 for being first, but comparing Tongie's mixing then and now, I can see nothing much has changed.. :-p

 Tetsuo writes: Crunchy [ 2002-01-20 - James Holden ]
I really liked this mix simply because it's such a change from the usual prog stuff we get to hear on the e-mix these days..not perfect but he does deserve credit for being bold...

Tetsuo writes: That elusive fourth track [ 1999-07-25 - Paul Oakenfold, Live at Home, Space, Ibiza ]
Just to carry the discussion over from the other tracklisting site..I was listening to this mix last night i thought i heard the female vocal singing the words to 'How Soon is Now' by The Smiths...not sure if that would help any trainspotters out there or not...

superock writes: You've got to respect it. [ 1994-12-18 - Paul Oakenfold ]
Its always a risky thing to do, mixing pop and true dance, and he did it with ease. For a more eclectic mix, it came out stellar.

Of couse, its not *true* Goa. More like a Goa-House hybrid. But, still a landmark mix, and stands out years later.
