 Information
Welcome to this site, here you can find the Radio One Essential Mix archives, ever since 1993 when it first broadcasted, up until today, and for the future. In time there will be features added for "artist in residence" which will be a profile of a DJ/Producer we will pick each month, and give you information about them and what they are doing now.

The page is updated by atleast a few people, so it is always up to date.

This is quality....I discovered this around 2000/2001 when I started listening to the kind of Hard House which was around at the time. I didn't really appraciate it then as it wasn't quite 'hard' enough.

After growing up a bit and giving it a few more listens I now appreciate that this is 10x better than the newer HH that followed TDV's death in 1998. It's not the relentless hoovers, nails-hard beats and silliness (although that was great fun at the right place and time), it's a really well-constructed set which was totally groundbreaking for its time (compare it to ANY of the other E-mixes from 1995 or even TDV's 1996 and 1997 Global Underground releases!) and actually has some amazing spine-tingling moments.

For example......just how good is "Version Two - Skychild's Taccata"?? I've never heard this played by anyone else and it really stands out as one of those "OMG what the hell is this?" tracks....somehow I know exactly how people would feel hearing this live at that '3am moment'....

Not only is this a blast to my past but as a big fan of vintage EM's I have to say this blew me away - outstanding and very evocative. The best EM I have heard so far.

A classic mix in every sense of the word for me, I stayed up chrismas day untill 4am to record this! still got it on tape the 2nd em I ever recorded, every track is now a classic, get hold of this rather than buying the new MOS Garage Classics mix, this is much better.

 Attila the Hun writes: Stretch N' Vern 1996 [ 1996-07-14 - Stretch N' Vern ]
This one is one of the best EMs I have ever heard. Very nice and unique tracks. Stretch n' Vern made a great job with this.

I've still got this on tape, the quality is starting to fail, and think I have a poor quality digital recording of the tape should anyone desperately want a copy.

 CheefRoberts writes: [ 1996-07-21 - John Digweed ]
The mix that was broadcast starts with "I Am" by Chakra. I remember recording it off the radio and waiting for Digweed to start. I still have the tape. He must have started his set in another arena before the tracmission started to broadcast his mix to listeners.
