Welcome to this site, here you can find the Radio One Essential Mix archives, ever since 1993 when it first broadcasted, up until today, and for the future. In time there will be features added for "artist in residence" which will be a profile of a DJ/Producer we will pick each month, and give you information about them and what they are doing now.

The page is updated by atleast a few people, so it is always up to date.

Kyle Mole writes: His last decent Essential mix
Got this mix, one of the last of Jules's before joining R1 and going up Tong's arse.
This is the kinda mix that works all over.
From funky to hard/bangin' grooves. He nicely puts in some drum and bass at the end of the mix. Jules used to rule the roost. He was always played everything, and his ear for a funky or tongue in cheek/quirky track was unpercidented.

Bongoloid writes: End of an earache.
At least this mix only suffers from a few clangers, which is pretty good for Captain Edam!

On the upside the mixe flows nicely from funky stuff (Dj Disco sampling Cheech!), tuff 'Off da Floor,' The heavy acid funk of Progress Funk, that 'Prime target' EP (Sampling Ming!), and a very nice build from there into Trancey vibes, the obvious 'Brainbug...' This was the first time I'd ever heard Nalin&Kane's mix of Lustral and Da Hool, now somewhat overkilled.

Follow that with a taste of Speed Garage from Loop da Loop, and we drop into some very harmonious D&B.

Always slagged to death, but there was a touch of class there one time... or was I just so off my face for nigh on 5 years that a police siren would have done...
