 trip2themoon writes:
The first essential mix I ever heard and still the best. This has much better use of trance when compared with a certain mix that was played later that year, and not a whiff of cheese....hurrah

ad1mt writes: this is a great mix
this is a great mix - especially the middle hour.

this was broadcast in the days when there were not only one, but TWO news bulletins in the middle of the show!!! the frist 30mins in, the second 90mins in, so you had 30mins, 60mins, 30mins. DJs often worked around these, and this is what oaky did here.

this is really three mixes, and for me its the middle 60mins that cuts it - the first 30mins & last 30mins are not as good, hence an 8 instead of 10.

 patashnik writes:
A fair number of these tracks appear on PO's 'Journeys By DJ' CD from back then. As synkboy says, 'Dreams' by Quench is amazing and never dates. I also like Opal's 'The Snake'

cat793 writes: This stuff made house bigtime
My favorite mix of all time. Awesome. I was really into dance/house in he late 80's but it is this kind of mix that I still regard as peerless. PO is a genius........his star might have faded but you listen to this and the Goa mix and should understand what made house/clubbing so exiting in the early 90's. It is more like a work of art in its own right than just a mix of different tracks. I think house was a bit more acidy/psychadelic at this stage and all the better for it.

Does anyone have a good quality copy of this mix - it seems to be about the only mix from this era that I can't get a decent copy of. Exasperation!!

RR78 writes: Oakey does it yet again!
Although this was only his second ever essential mix, for me this is one of his best. Middle hour is superb, full on trance.
It's a mix I keep coming back to time and again, still sounds surprisingly fresh seeing as though it is 17 years old now!!
Would have given it a 10 had he not played Floor Essence so painfully slowly and finishing with Insane... didn't seem right to me.
All in all though, Oakey in his pomp!
