This was a great mix, don't get me wrong, but it didn't do much and I didn't think it was anything new. We hear a lot of these house mixes. If you played this right after listening to Silicon Soul's mix from last year, I be you wouldn't even know it had changed. Nice to listen to nonetheless, so I can't slag 'em for it. |

I love this essential mix. I could listen to this kind of stuff all day. Deep house and tech house from the San Francisco bods Halo and Hipp E.
Check out thier album on Soma Records - Environments. |

I like this one. The music is good and although there's not a lot of variation, I can't decide whether this is good or bad. On the one hand it makes the transitions less noticeable, on the other there's no 'journey'.
I suspect this is one to give a few listens to. Unfortunately, not possible with over 600 Essential Mixes to get through! |

I can understand why some people are a bit undecided on this mix. It's nothing but a solid 2 hours of deep and dubby west coast house and most of the records are from san diego/sf/vancouver. The mix doesn't really go anywhere or stray too far from that sound so unless you're really keen on that sound (like myself) I can see how this is boring. That's not to say this mix doesn't build up and and break down at all though, but it's in a far more subtle way than your progressive or trance sets. The mixing is just as deep and subtle as everything else here. Quite a few transistions carry on for 2 minutes plus and leave you just itching for them to drop the bassline. Only give this an 8 though because I know these guys could have a bit more direction (other than up and down) while still keeping true to west coast house. |
