I was very skeptical about this mix considering the shite Tiesto has been playing. I`m not dissapointed, though - nice tunes, less cheese. Even gets a little tougher towards the end. |

This mix brought me back to the time when tiesto played decent pumping tracks, and reminded me of his set he did at zoom in israel in 99 or 2000 (he ended it with the silence remix) This is the best set ive heard from him in a long long time...I'm only giving him an 8 because he should be playing like this all the time and not throwing in cheezy trance tracks and thinking that he is god. this mix was def an improvement and it def did get harder. |

This is a fairly bog standard mix....but judging from other comments this is a return to form for him.
His other recent sets must have been appalling then in that case.
Some decent tracks around the 40-50 minute mark though.
Gets all too predictable towars the end as well. |

For a while there, I really started disliking Tiesto's sets... just too monotonous, a bit wierd and boring at times. This set, however, reminds me of his golden years, just a fantastic set. |

Agreed that Tiesto really stepped up for this mix -- I'd been completely disappointed in most of what I've heard from him recently, including the Disneyland Paris set earlier in the year.
This mix may indeed be a bit "run-of-the-mill", and there are no real "wow" moments or standout performances from Tiesto himself. But at least he's back to solid, listenable tracks that work well together... it's a much-needed course correction for him. If he needs to reach back to what was working for him 5 years ago in order to move forward, then I'm all for it.
(Reminds me that one of Oakenfold's weekly radio mixes last month [October 2005] took the same tack -- he revisited a bunch of the late-90's trance that built his name, and in my opinion really turned in a choice 'Classic Oakey' mix. The man can keep playing "Betterman" and "Beautiful Day" until he dies, as far as I'm concerned.) |
