Welcome to this site, here you can find the Radio One Essential Mix archives, ever since 1993 when it first broadcasted, up until today, and for the future. In time there will be features added for "artist in residence" which will be a profile of a DJ/Producer we will pick each month, and give you information about them and what they are doing now.

The page is updated by atleast a few people, so it is always up to date.

Just not my thing at all. Slow, whiney, weird barely-tracks -- and I'm considering a home lobotomy to get the "tick-tick-tick" sound of that endless hi-hat backbeat out of my brain. Everything I used to hate about "boring, repetetive" club music before I heard GOOD club music.

Technically probably-sound, but nothing I want to listen to. Less boring than the Tiefschwarz mix,,, but since listening to a dial tone is less boring than the Tiefschwarz mix, that's not saying much.

 matrix writes: An alternative opinion
I think this is a great mix. The previous review mentions the word 'club' a couple of times, and it is true that this would not fit in a club. However, for anyone (like me) just as interested in the 'at home' listening experience, I highly recommend this piece.

It has something about it that lifts it above other recent minimal offerings (more melody perhaps?), including much more of an overall feel to the mix.

This is nonsense.

I saw this guy live in Belfast in March and had high hopes for this mix,but what we get is more minimal garbage.

Can please someone tell me what the appeal is of this genre???

Lazarus is indeed a fine DJ,
and the mixing and transitions here are very solid, but the music(barring one or two exceptions)is for the most part AWFUL.

OK listen up Radio 1,
no more of this crap this year please.

Alex Smoke and James Holden played two of the dullest sets I had to listen to this year.

This is'nt far behind I'm afraid.

Yet another pointless "I don't like this genre so I'm going to tell everyone how crap the music is" comment.

So what,
this mix is appalling from a musically perspective,so why not comment about it.

My friends and I use essential mixes while we work to accompany our creative tasks. My friends a tailor, myself an artist. We agreed that this was one of the better mixes in a long while. It reminds me of a locootive. Strong, slow, and gritty to begin, and then steady and scenic. A great home mix indeed.
