Yep. It's the worst. What the hell happened to the "Legend of Paul Oakenfold?" He has almost diminished on mixing in his essential mixes. It starts okay witht the first track, but the rest of the mix blows! I still want to see Oakenfold at a club near me, but I am starting to doubt it. The worst part by far in this mix is when he trys to switch to faster kill pussycat and fails. The beat is off and it sounds like a trainwreck....lol |

what a pathetic excuse for a dj......hmmm let me get thousands of people to listen to music just by me, and then in the middle of it ill stop playing and throw on a u2 cd........what a disgrace, he sucks. |

I would'nt call this bad as such,
I WOULD CALL IT HILARIOUS!!!!
The pigeons really have come home to roost for the most overrated DJ of all time.
Mixing is bad?,
the mixing is ALWAYS bad with him,
yet the fanboys would'nt hear of it.
Do you hear now???? |

This set reminded me of the movie "It's All Gone Pete Tong" when Fankie Wilde starts to lose his hearing and train wreaks This set reminded me of the movie "It's All Gone Pete Tong" when Frankie Wilde starts to lose his hearing and train wreaks at a club in Ibiza. If you have not watched it... you are missing out. Also listening to Angello's follow up set I don't think there was not any technical or monitor issues to blame for his horrible set. But giving him the benefit of a doubt he might have been messed up on something.
Can't he made Transport 1 or the Global Underground CDs |

by the way, I listened to the galaxy fm creamfields mix and it was significantly better than this amnesia one. He was still way better in '99 and '00 though. Most of his mixes have gone downhill ever since 2000 because he starts to use his own music, and he hasn't DJed as much. I don't think he really cares anymore about pleasing the people in the crowd. He just wants to put on his artist stuff. (which isn't really that great)
A lot of people respect him because of what he was years ago, but he isn't any sort of legend anymore. It's funny how people speaking on his mixes say, "We are so happy to have him here...and we continue with the 'legend of Paul Oakenfold'...etc etc. lol. He is 43 years old, and he really either needs to give it a rest, or step it up for once. |

The man should stop now to avoid further embarrassment.
I'm sure he isn't shy of a few quid. |

I haven't heard this set and from all the comments and ratings I think I will give this a miss. I admit, my days of hitting a club with the bright glow sticks are well over, and whilst I used to be a fan of Oakey, I haven't bought any of his music for years but I still enjoy music - good quality music. For me, there used to be a certain spark about Oakey, even if his mixing wasn't always top drawer, he would at least play some decent records, but like many DJs and artists today, they seem to chase the buck and release any old rubbish which is why the quality and reputation of the EM has deminished in the last year or so. |

I think what made Oakenfold have a certain appeal in days gone by was the fact that he always had at least half a dozen records no one else had,and these formed the backbone of his sets.
Nowadays with mp3 mixing and cdjs he doesn't have that edge and tries to substitute the records he used to have with his own (awful) productions.
Personally I saw him live 4 or 5 times, the last time being March 2000....and he set was really just an amalgamation of all the tunes he played the previous year on the Essential Mix world tour...and he could be seen visably yawning behind the decks even though the atmosphere was electric in the club(Lush).
This is a club Sasha,Digweed,Howells,Sanchez,Paul van Dyk and a host of others list among the best on Earth,so how he could be so bored (unless he had no passion for the music) in there is beyond me. |

I don't know what's going on with Oakey in Ibiza...
Live he is still breathtaking...
One word 4 the Legend; Rrrrrrrrespect! |

How can you respect someone that disrespects his audience by delivering a set as shitty as this one? |

Sven: You’ve been playing several times in “Essential Mix”, what did your presence in these sessions bring to you and what experience could you gain from these sessions?
Paul Oakenfold: Well, the Essential Mixes… My last Essential Mix was a nightmare!
Sven: Wow...
Paul: It was a live on the radio and one of the monitors... I had problems with the monitor, blew! So I couldn’t hear was I was doing. So it was terrible for me. Ahmm, we managed to fix it but it was possible one of the worst situation for a DJ to lose the monitors and he can’t hear what he’s doing. But that was my last experience. But overall Essential Mixes are great, great a way of promoting new music, of turning on people to new DJs.

Well maybe he had problems with the sound system however that does not take away from the fact that the tracklisting is woeful, i have never heard this mix but i can see it is pretty shit. |
