what the hell is goin on with the essential mix??? they named this EM of the year, what were they thinking? it sucked!!!

 icysak writes:
yes i agree. there was about 20 minutes around the chris isaac track that was alright, but for the most part it was mundane. highly disappointed with EM this year, but that seems to be the general consensus.

 synkboy writes:
This EM was piss poor,
SOS was streets ahead of it.

A monumentally poor year of the EM.

 paulh writes:
i liked it. on the grand scheme of things over the past decade or so this is a pathetic mix, but compared to the tripe we have had from radio 1 in the 2006 its got to be up there in the top 3 at least for em of the yar

 paddy_f writes: Worthy Winner
Although I didn't vote for this mix, I enjoyed it immensely. It has great variation and depth. IMO anyone who gives this a 0/10 needs to sit down and have a chat with themselves.

SOS was a half decent/mediocre/formulaic prog set with the odd housey track thrown in for good measure.

 tgross79 writes:
paddy_f i sat down and had a chat with myself and ive come to the conclusion that this mix deserves a 0 and that is mho!

 paddy_f writes:
IMO this is a mix for all fans of music, not just dance music enthusiasts. I think some people are approaching this expecting something they're not going to get. It's not a peak time club techno set that makes you want to dance. Anyone can throw together a formulaic minimal techno/house set that's not much different from dozens of others you could listen to; fair balls to trentemoller for putting together a unique mix and creating many of the tracks himself; it takes more imagination and skill to do that.

To reiterate : giving this mix a zero only proves that you have a very limited range of musical interests, or that you just don't know what you're talking about.

 paddy_f writes:
I would respect your opinion if you gave it a low rating like 2-4, but giving this a zero is just a barefaced display of ignorance, because I simply can't see how it deserves that.

 dj_sisco writes: not the best
not the best, but this year there where poor in comparition is not too bad.prefer trentemoller as a producer than a dj.

 synkboy writes:
I have been listening to music for over 20 years, and my tastes range from Boards of Canada to Dead Kennedys to LFO to Ulrich Schnauss to U2!!!!

I gave this it is dull, mundane, poorly put together and the music for the most part is rubbish.

The 0 is also to register my disgust at this being voted mix of the year.

You say giving it 0 shows ignorance of music.....well the fact you have made a statement such as that shows **ARROGANCE** on your part.
[ Posted on 2007-02-01 08:06:06 ] [email]

 paddy_f writes:
You give a mix 0 just because other people liked it ? I don't see the logic there, give it a rating based on what YOU think.

You could listen to music for 1,000 years and still have terrible taste.
[ Posted on 2007-02-01 18:09:00 ]

 synkboy writes:
I don't see your point?,
I have bad taste because I think this mix is crap.

This is as soulless as dance music comes, add to that thae fact it is made up of mostly his own productions/remixes.

For me it is a have your own opinion obviously so just leave it at that.

 m4point5 writes: visionary.
i can see why people don't like this mix.

it's a very ambitious and brave mix, the first hour is almost beatless and what beats there exist are not at club pace. i think that trentemoller has roots in the basic channel vien, as the tracks were heavily dubbed/echoed.

the second half is more upbeat (obviously) but still has elements of heavy dubbed out grooves in there which limit the potential for this mix to really peak out.

the inclusion of a heavy amount of his own productions lets this mix down slightly, his tracks are good and i rate him as a producer but 'his' sound overpowers through the mix and should be used more sparingly.

overall, i thought it was quite good. well programmed and uses many tracks that i've never heard crafted into a journey.

it's better by miles than the standard 'progressive' ploddy guff that seems to populate EM these days and i like the fact he's done something different. only critisim is that he might be flexing his musical credentials, impressing the few rather than entertaining the many.

not sure who votes for the best essential mix, i defo would'nt have voted it as the best.

however, it defo in the top 5, very chilled out with a bit of idm going on, nice to hear people are doing essential mixes that dont conform to the usual standard!
